Our Programme
We have built a programme around child centred learning and growth. All programmes are individual and can be adapted to the young person’s needs to allow them the best chance of achieving their goals.
No two children are the same and our programmes understand this looking at the individual needs of the young person, finding their passions and aspirations and helping them to achieve them. The early stage of the mentoring programme is about building a positive relationship and getting to know the young person, this can take time.
Empower Mentoring's programme operates in three phases, each designed to provide comprehensive support and guidance to the young people we serve. Due to the needs of some young people these can be tailored and phases are reached at different times for each student.
Phase 1: Establishing Foundation
In this initial phase, we prioritise building a professional relationship with the young person. We take the time to understand their individual needs and create a safe environment where they feel comfortable to express themselves and grow.
Phase 2: Overcoming Barriers
and Fostering Growth
During this phase we deepen the relationship with the young person and begin to identify and address any barriers or difficulties they may face. Emphasis is placed on setting achievable goals, providing encouragement and support, and enhancing self-esteem and confidence through various activities and open conversations with their mentor.
Phase 3: Celebrating Achievements and Planning for the Future
In the final phase, we celebrate the achievements made by the young person and re-assess their goals. With the student and commissioners together, we explore next steps for their continued growth and development, focusing on acquiring the essential life skills.
Through this structured approach, we aim to empower young people to overcome challenges, achieve their goals, and navigate their journey towards a brighter future.
Approach to our mentoring programme
Empower Mentoring places a strong emphasis on providing mentoring and life skills, social enrichment opportunities, delivered by mentors equipped with a diverse array of skills. These mentors offer guidance and support across various community settings, such as local parks, gyms, libraries, museums, and other points of interest.
Our approach is structured around a three-phase programme, tailored to the age of the participants:
For primary-aged children, we emphasise play and development.
Secondary-aged participants engage in life skills and creative projects, while still focusing on play and development to meet their needs.
Post-16 individuals receive a customised approach, addressing their specific needs. This may involve support with transitioning to college, exploring training or apprenticeship opportunities, or developing life skills to navigate the community safely.
Empower Mentoring maintains consistency across all age groups, adhering to our core values of fostering positive, safe relationships to meet the needs of young people. Our mentors serve as role models, imparting positive relationship skills and promoting positive choices throughout the mentoring journey.
